Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Italy have been forced to make a leap forward in terms of digital transformation during 2020. In particular, many organizations have had to learn how to work and coordinate remotely with a workforce that works from home and is equipped with specific software for monitoring employees and others to facilitate work from remote. Capterra wanted to investigate if and how the massive transition to smart working. Had an impact on working relationships within our local SMEs. We interviewed 1,538 Italian professionals regarding the management of working relationships in general and the control of , within their Job Function Email List company; in this article we will analyze the answers provided by employees and middle managers, while in the next we will focus on managers and entrepreneurs. The detailed methodology of the study is presented at the end of the article. What is employee monitoring? To begin with, it is important to clarify what is meant by employee monitoring. Workplace surveillance involves gaining access to data generated by an employee on company equipment (most often through a computer and the applications used) or filming a workspace through video surveillance. The collection of such data can be used to ensure the safety of the company and/or its workforce, to monitor attendance time or to evaluate an individual's productivity.
